Cheri Sims has been a practicing respiratory therapist for 28 years with a focus on chronic lung disease prevention and asthma management/education. She has worked in skilled nursing facilities, long-term acute care, critical care, emergency care, and specialized in neonatal and pediatric care. She is certified by the AAP as an NRP instructor and certified by AHA as a PALS and BLS instructor.
Cheri has been employed by Denver Health Hospital & Authority for the last 11 years and is currently the Critical Care Respiratory Specialist for Neonatal/Pediatrics, and is chair of the NICU RT Best Practice and RT PICU Leadership Committees. She is passionate about the respiratory profession, supporting respiratory staff and student involvement in the neonatal and pediatric units, and bringing awareness to the valuable impact of respiratory therapy.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care, Magna Cum Laude, through Boise State University. Recipient of the RT Leader of the Year award in 2021 and The PHIL (Pulmonary Health and Illnesses of the Lung) award in 2022. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, snow skiing, and traveling with her family.

Meliza Alvarez B.S., RRT-NPS, AE-C
Dynamic and empathetic leader actively engaged in advancing the Respiratory Therapy profession and improving the quality and safety of the care RTs provide to the pediatric patient population.
Respiratory Clinical Manager at Children's Hospital Colorado. Serving acute care, outpatient PFT lab, networks of care sites, and the Respiratory Chronic Care Specialist teams. RT of 9 years and advocate for evidenced-based respiratory practices. Excited to get involved with the CSRC to learn, support, and serve our community of respiratory therapists.
Christopher Mahannah MBA, RRT, RRT-NPS
Christopher Mahannah has been a respiratory therapist for 13 years. He earned his Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy from Southern Maine Community College while working as a respiratory equipment tech at Maine Medical Center. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Care with a focus on leadership from Pima Medical College in 2018 and his Masters of Business Administration from Grand Canyon University in 2021. He has worked as a flight therapist and safety specialist for the flight team at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical center, an associate clinical manager at Children’s Hospital Colorado and most recently a quality coordinator at The Medical Center of Aurora. Chris has served the Colorado Respiratory Care Society since 2019 as a board of director and as the interim Denver Metro president. During his time with the society he has co-written the states bylaws, helped organize and speak at the state conference, and hosted the Denver mentor conference in 2022 and 2023. Chris also served on PIMA’s advisory board for the online BSRT program and the MSOL program from 2019 until June of 2023 and was a member of the Society for Airway Management from 2019-2021. Chris’s goal as the VP of the Colorado Respiratory Care Society is to work on inclusivity and representation from all the respiratory departments in the state of Colorado. He looks forward to continuing to serve the profession that helped launch his career and loves seeing new respiratory therapists grow in their profession.
